Offered for sale at No Reserve is this award-winning 1936 Ford Model 68 sedan. When this vehicle was restored, no detail was overlooked and the excellence and quality of this vehicle reflects the efforts and passion that the current owner and restorer put into this Ford. Extreme efforts were taken to make sure that only correct Ford parts, including many New Old Stock (NOS) parts, were used during the restoration process. As a result, this Ford won its Antique Automobile Club of America (AACA) Senior First award at a show in Hersey, PA, and the coveted Dearborn Award by the Early Ford V8 Club of America certifying the quality and dedication to originality of the restorations. Judging sheets from the Early Ford V8 Club of America, of which the owner is a member, are included in the sale of this vehicle as are the badges and trophies. A full album of photographs documenting the restoration process are also included.
The owner and restorer of this Ford, a meticulous machinist and craftsman, treated this automobile as a member of the family and put a great deal of passion into anything related to its care. Following its run on the show circuit, the owner modified it into a traditional late 1940s custom using only real Ford parts, many of which are NOS. A NOS 1947-48 factory assembled complete short block Ford truck/bus engine was found still in its crate and installed in the vehicle with dual 97 carburetors, Edelbrock heads, and stainless steel dual headers and exhaust. Other period modifications completed after its tour on the purists show circuit include 1940 Ford hydraulic brakes, and steering. Also included during these modifications was the addition of an original 1940 Columbia 2-speed rear end with an original vacuum shift. All aspects of this rear end were meticulously inspected, restored and machined for a high quality fit. When in operation, the Columbia rear end shifts smoothly and works perfectly. The wheels are custom powder coated rims with 4 ½” x 16” wheels on the front and 5 1/2” x 16” on the rear. The tires are Firestone 600s on the front and 650s on the rear. The electrical system was upgraded to 8-volt with directional signals and fog lamps. All accessories and gauges are real Ford period-correct parts and operate as they should. On the exterior, the paint still shines with a mirror-like finish and the coachwork and upholstery are immaculate. According to the consignor, the body is in amazing condition, all panels and lines are in exceptional condition, and the doors open and close perfectly. Included with the sale are the custom car covers, a set of original tools and a full assortment of period artifacts, such as a WWII ration stamp book, that help to mold this automobile into a historical time capsule.
