Lot #033

The complete restoration of this 1978 Buick Skylark was a labor of love for the consignor. Originally his mother’s car, the retired military veteran and trained heavy equipment mechanic with over thirty years experience who restored this vehicle began this project with the idea that “anything worth doing, was worth doing right.” With only 54,500 original miles, the restoration of this vehicle focused on every detail of the vehicle. The end result was a perfect tribute to his mother that also incorporated his love of muscle and power.

Every aspect of this Buick’s body and frame was completely dissambled, sandblasted, properly repaired and painted. Both front and rear sub-frames were completely rebuilt. A new spring mounted positive track differential was added, and the entire body was remounted on new rubber mounts and seals. To simply state it, every portion of this vehicles frame and suspension components were properly replaced by a trained, detailed professional approach. Although not available on the Skylark in 1978, the black paint scheme was a Buick color on other models and the perfect choice to give this Buick a powerful look to match the engine and drive train modifications.

Under the hood, this Skylark has been re-powered with a 1976 350ci GMC truck engine that was completely professionally rebuilt to a high standard, at the same time the transmission was rebuilt to the same quality with the addition of a high performance shift kit. Rebuilt from the bottom end up with performance and reliability in mind, the engine overhaul also included new Edlebrock aluminum heads complete with roller rockers and push rod guides, new Edlebrock carburetor, new HD starter and Flow-Master exhaust.

On the interior, the same attention to detail was applied as to the mechanics and body of this Skylark. The brown interior compliments this vehicle nicely and every option available on the 1978 Skylark is included in this car.

The consignor admits that amount of time, detail, and money spent on this Skylark’s restoration would normally be applied by some to a to a high end late 1960’s performance car, however to him, this car was more important, it was for his mom, and she was able to see the results and admire the work before her passing. The quality, love and care for this vehicle is evident throughout.
