Dec 3 10:00 pm
Our annual holiday celebration is a popular one-day affair with free admission for all! Santa’s reindeer rest up while he enjoys a different form of air travel in a vintage airplane, flying in for a special appearance at the Museum. The Midcoast Community Band will perform a special holiday concert, and free family activities are offered throughout the morning.
The Museum opens at 10:00 am, and children are invited to bring their letters to Santa or write a letter at the Museum. Letter writing, ornament crafting, cookie decorating and coloring stations will be open from 11:00 am until 12:00 noon, when Santa will arrive from the North Pole by air.
From 12:15 until 12:50 letters from the children will be collected while Santa reads a favorite Christmas story. At the adjournment of the reading, the children’s letters will be packed in a special “Polar Air Mail” mailbag and picked up in a vintage vehicle from the Museum’s collection. The audience is invited to head outside to watch as the Cessna, piloted by one of Santa’s helpers, departs Owls Head en route to the North Pole with the holiday letters on board. The plane takes off from the Museum’s famous Runway 17, and departure is scheduled at 1:00 pm, weather permitting.
Once the letters are safely on their way, Santa will lead the children back inside and introduce the Mid-Coast Community Band as they hold their annual holiday concert from 1:30 to 3:15. Complimentary refreshments will be offered during intermission.
