The Owls Head Transportation Museum is pleased to announce that our 39th Annual New England Auto Auction™ set a high sales record for the second consecutive year, grossing $3,136,238.50 including a 10 percent buyer’s premium. Additionally, the 2016 NEAA™ boasted the largest inventory of any previous sale, with 223 lots crossing the block on Saturday, August 20. Vehicles were sold to collectors all over the world, and the strength of phone and absentee bids was unprecedented.
The top lots of the day included a rare 1875 Abbott-Downing Concord Stagecoach which brought $203,500, a 1965 Porsche 356C Coupe at $88,000, a 1954 Chevrolet Corvette at $83,600 and a 1954 Cadillac Series 62 at $78,100 (all prices are inclusive of a 10 percent buyer’s premium). Of the 223 lots to cross the block, 163 found new homes, generating a 74 percent rate of sale.
For the first time, the New England Auto Auction™ was conducted inside the Museum’s Main Gallery, allowing an upgraded auction experience for all attendees. The relocation of the auction fostered an elevated auction experience and received an overwhelmingly positive response. Subsequently, the New England Auto Auction™ will be conducted inside the Museum going forward. Previously, the auction was held in the Museum’s outer pavilion, a separate space on the OHTM campus. Hosting the auction inside the Museum allowed bidders and spectators to enjoy the comforts of close proximity to all facilities, concessions, and the Museum’s dynamic exhibitions and gallery spaces.
Mark your calendars for August 18 and 19, 2017, and stay tuned for details about the Museum’s 40th Annual New England Auto Auction™. Many thanks to our sponsors, bidders, consignors, and spectators for another tremendous year!
