Andrew’s beer is straightforward, unassuming and entirely enjoyable. His product line includes the St. Nick Porter, the Northern Brown Ale, the English Pale Ale, and the summer seasonal Ruby’s Golden Ale. A celebration of the Amarillo hop, Hazen’s English Pale Ale is a delightfully balanced product that neither over or underwhelms the palate. All our beers are sold in Maine and Vermont in select locations.
Speaker: Andy Hazen is a workhorse of a brewer. The former cabinetmaker is also a self-reliant Mainer through and through. He was originally an all-grain home brewer who decided to take it to the next level when his friends expressed interest in his beers. He designed the 12-barrel brewing system himself and enlisted a local welder to help put it together. Hazen notes that when you live in Maine, you have to find some service to provide to others in order to survive. For him, brewing is the service he provides to his local community. Learn more…
Savage Oakes Vineyard & Winery
At Savage Oakes, our mission is to continue the small farming tradition of our property and the surrounding community and to live the lifestyle it offers. We aim to make our small farm a success through diversification and an entrepreneurial outlook and to be an example for others who wish to do the same. Our goal is to preserve our farm for the future and to give our children an opportunity to continue a successful enterprise.
Speaker: Elmer Savage, along with his wife Holly, own Savage Oakes Vineyard and Winery in Union. Elmer is a native Mainer, graduate of Camden-Rockport and the University of Maine with a degree in Agriculture. In 2000, after other careers and many years of hobby farming, the couple decided it was time make a change when the opportunity arose to purchase the family farm. After exploring value added products that could be made with the farm’s wild blueberries, Elmer considered the possibility of making wine with those blueberries and then deciding to grow some grapes, certainly not one of Maine’s most common crops. That decision has now developed into one of Maine’s most unique agri-business destinations. The farm and winery attracts tens of thousands of guests each season, producing 17 award winning wines from estate grown fruit, and playing host to a summer full of events, including a summer concert series featuring popular national artists. Flight Deck Brewing
Flight Deck Brewing opened to the public in early 2017, with the drive to provide greater-Brunswick with a destination brewery, casual social gathering space, and family-friendly venue for building our community. Located in the former Small Arms Range of the Brunswick Naval Air Station (now Brunswick Landing), our unique and welcoming Tasting Room was named “Best in Maine” by Down East Magazine. In the first year of operation, we served 98% of the beer we made in our Tasting Room – and had to push off our initial distribution plans to keep up. Starting in 2018, our beer will be available in cans at select retail and restaurant/bar locations across Maine. With a constantly evolving tap list, food trucks, regular live music, and plenty of space to hang out with your dog (and/or human kids, too), we hope to see you soon!
Speaker: Nate wears two primary hats: one, as Engagement Director for Live and Work in Maine, a private-sector workforce attraction initiative, and two: as Co-Founder of Flight Deck Brewing, a production brewery, tasting room, and event space on Brunswick Landing. As Engagement Director for Live and Work in Maine, Nate is focused on enabling people to seize the many opportunities for living and working here in Maine. A University of Maine graduate who followed employment to the mid-west only to come running back to the Way Life Should Be, Nate knows first-hand how under-appreciated our quality of life is – and how much opportunity there is for our future.
