Special Musical Performance at 12:30pm, presented by Bay Chamber Concerts

Maine organizations that have created the culture of community through education and shared passions.

Join us for the last of our four-part series celebrating the pioneers and innovators of Maine’s business community with a special performance at 12:30pm, featuring a family trio of musicians from Bay Chamber!

Indulge your curiosity as these dynamic speakers

reveal the backstory about ideas and innovations that have gotten them to where they are today. The stories illustrated through our Museum’s collection are not so different from our own Maine innovators and entrepreneurs at work in the community today. Past and present, connects. Hear them share their stories of what makes each of them unique, and the spirit, ingenuity, luck and grit it takes to make it here in Maine.

Jon Wilson founded the company in September 1974 with the publication of the first issue of WoodenBoat magazine—which he assembled from his off-the-grid cabin in North Brooksville, The company’s next endeavor was the WoodenBoat Store, which initially sold back issues and tee shirts, and now sells fine tools, books, models, and clothing—among a host of other wooden-boat related items. In 1980, Jon established WoodenBoat School as a continuing-education venue for established boatbuilders—and as a place for prospective builders to learn first-hand how to bend and shape wood to craft beautiful boats. The WoodenBoat Show, an annual gathering of fine wooden watercraft at Mystic Seaport, was founded in the early 1990s.
