Inspiring the Innovators of Tomorrow

Science is the study of the physical world.
Industry applies these studies to the needs in our community.

At Owls Head Transportation Museum, learning takes flight. From hands-on engineering challenges to the Innovation Design Process, we spark curiosity and imagination in learners of all ages. Through our rapid growth since 2022 OHTM has opened its very own Science & Industry Center! You can now connect with families, students, professionals, and community members in hands-on learning at the Science & Industry’s exhibit hall where you see the production of industry in both aviation and automotive. After seeing how an idea comes to reality you can test your creative skills in several interactives such as our Tinker’s Garage, Lego Derby Race Track, Airplane Launcher, or Vertical Windtunnel! Allow your curiosity to drive you through this one of a kind experience!

Along with exhibits the Science & Industry Center at OHTM holds 3 STEM Classrooms, a FabLab (fabrication laboratory) and a Science Stage. These spaces allow for school groups to visit and take on engineering challenges or fabrication to enhance their school base learning while here at OHTM. This is also a space for you families and children to take camps and workshops to gain experience in Robotics, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math), Engines, 3D Printing, Innovation, and Family Engagement. Don’t miss out on this amazing center that is now open!

To recognize how the Science & Industry Center at OHTM connects our visitors to workforce readiness we host our annual STEM Fest event in the spring! This event started in 2023 as a one day community event with local businesses, and corporations promoting STEM, career paths and trades to the OHTM community. STEM Fest has now grown to a 2-day event wher more than 500 middle school students join us on Friday to meet with state wide Community Partners to learn about the careers Maine has to offer for our youth. The middle school students gain knowledge in trade programs, universities, Robotics, Boat Building, and many more STEM related fields. This is important for middle schoolers to be exposed to this to allow them to start mapping out their electives once they reach high school. To also have the event be a community resource, Saturday is a FREE day to all of Maine to encourage families to visit so they can learn together about the paths their children are interested in. This event has been supported by Maine’s major companies such as BIW, Douglass Dynamics, CMP, and University of Maine! Make sure to keep watch to join us this year!
