DESCRIPTION:Maine people have a reputation of hard work and ingenuity\, and ice harvesting was one result of that Yankee trait. Learn about this long-standing Maine tradition\, beginning 200 years ago\, through our exhibits\, including old tools\, and a video presentation about ice harvesting. \nThe Thompson Ice House Museum’s mission is historical preservation\, education and community engagement. \nAnnual Ice Harvest \nSunday\, February 15\, 2026 (11-3 PM)\nIn the small Maine village of South Bristol\, a hardy group of volunteers gathers each year to harvest naturally frozen ice\, in much the same way it has been done since 1826. The annual Ice Harvest brings people from all over the local area and far beyond\, to watch the harvest and participate in a historical reenactment of ice harvesting. \nOHTM will be making an appearance with the 1926 Ford T Ice Saw!

Members of The Great Race team will share stories from their travels\, while the Pine Tree Jamboree organizers explore the connection between education and racing. As a special highlight\, every race car in the museum will have its hood open so visitors can take a closer look under the hood. \nKids can enjoy STEM Saturday – Robot Racing from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM\nPlus: Collection highlights\, open hood\, on view from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM \nAll activities are included with museum membership or daily admission. Bring the whole family and spend the day learning\, exploring\, and racing into winter fun.
