OHTM at Maine Science Festival

Wednesday, March 1, 2023

Members of OHTM's Education Department will be attending the Maine Science Festival at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor on March 23 & 25. Education Director Megan Galinsky and Education Facilitator Kaylor Stroot will be demonstrating OHTM's Stomp Rockets program.

Stomp rockets is a program that allows students to test out prototyping in mass, trajectory and aerodynamics. Through this activity participants will make a paper rocket that will allow them to add weight to the nose cone of the rocket, add more or take away wings to see if modification will add to the mass and how the rocket will propel through the air.

Participants will use their weight and gravity to launch the rockets in multiple angles to reach designated targets, they will be challenged to see at what angle, and the amount of pressure they use to thrust the rocket into the air will land the rocket at the desired landing point. While testing students will observe an engine of a rocket and learn about how the engine works to do the work, they are doing on these prototypes to real rockets that get launched into space.
