John BotteroDepartment: ExecutiveTitle: Executive Director E-mail: Phone: (207) 594-4418 x127 Profile: Born on Cape Cod and raised in central Maine, John has always enjoyed learning about and preserving things from the past. Instead of amusement parks and fairs, his family visited forts and museums. Once he was introduced to OHTM, there was no turning back—John and his family immediately became volunteers in the late 1970’s. John's career started in the Navy after high school. After his military service was over he went on to complete a technical degree, and a business degree while he was working for Raytheon in Portsmouth Rhode Island. Defense cutbacks drove John to seek other employment, leading him back to his beloved Maine. Once John was reestablished back in Maine, he worked spent 30 years in the fine art and antique arena as VP/auctioneer at the prestigious Thomaston Place Auction Galleries. With the retirement of Executive Director, Charles Chiachiaro in 2012, the museum needed a replacement auctioneer for the New England Auto Auction™ and reached out to John. John then went on to serve as a museum Trustee in 2020. The following year, he was offered the full time position of Operations Manager. John strives to make every visitor inspired by the Owls Head Transportation Museum experience just as he was when he came to the museum as a youth. |
