David Carter

Department: Aviation
Title: Aircraft Conservator
E-mail:

Profile:
David started out as a Mercedes-Benz mechanic specializing in diesel engine repair. Since then, he’s fabricated late model stock cars, owned an auto & truck repair shop, and even tried his hand at NASCAR racing. David competed for 23 years, and if you showed up to Shenandoah Speedway between 2014 and 2018, David (with his 70,000 laps in a racecar) was the one to beat.

A true jack-of-all-trades, he decided to add airplanes into the mix back in 1998. Simply flying them wasn’t enough – after completing the Aviation Maintenance Technology Program at Blue Ridge Community College, he opened an aircraft repair shop in Virginia.

For 20 years he had visited the Owls Head Transportation Museum, and he’s happy to have now settled in Maine, working to maintain and restore the museum’s collection of aircrafts to the highest safety standards.
