John Bottero appointed Executive Director of Owls Head Transportation Museum

            On Dec. 16, the Owls Head Transportation Museum’s Board of Directors unanimously voted to appoint John Bottero the Executive Director of the Owls Head Transportation Museum, effective Jan 1, 2023. Bottero joined the museum in 2021 as Operations Director. Bottero’s new leadership role at the museum coincides with the public phase of a $9.75 million Capital Campaign, which will create new education spaces, restoration workshops and enhanced visitor experiences.

“The Owls Head Transportation Museum has been a place of inspiration for me since my youth. I am thrilled for the opportunity to lead this great organization forward and continue to deliver on the promise to inspire and educate through the examples of innovation from our past,” said Bottero.

            Bottero began his career in the Navy, following which he earned technical and business degrees, then worked at aerospace and defense company Raytheon. He brings to the position three decades of experience in the fine art and antique arena, having served as Vice President, appraiser, and auctioneer at Thomaston Place Auction Galleries.

            Outgoing Director, Kevin Bedford, served in the role since late 2016; Bedford will act as the Major Donation Director of the Capital Campaign through June 2023.

            The Owls Head Transportation Museum (OHTM) is a nonprofit educational organization. Its mission is to collect, preserve, exhibit, and operate pre-1940 aircraft, ground vehicles, engines, and related technologies significant to the evolution of transportation for the purpose of education. The museum also hosts the annual New England Auto Auction™, which draws consignors and bidders from around the world.
